Earnest — Privacy policy
Last updated: 4 November 2026
Earnest is a personal, single-user application (see the home page). It is used only by its owner
and connects only to the owner's own Google account. It is not offered to any other person or organisation.
Data the application accesses
Through the Google Calendar API, with the owner's explicit consent, Earnest accesses:
- the list of the owner's calendars;
- free/busy information of the owner's calendars;
- events in the owner's calendars (to recognise recurring meetings and to create or move events).
How the data is used
The data is used only to find free time slots and to create or reschedule events at the owner's request, and only
after the owner approves the action. It is not used for advertising, profiling or any other purpose.
Storage and sharing
- Earnest runs on a server controlled by the owner. Calendar contents are processed there and are not sent to
third-party AI services by the application.
- The only credential stored is the OAuth refresh token, kept in a file readable only by the application's service account.
- Calendar data is not sold, shared, transferred or disclosed to third parties. Other people (members of the owner's
research group) can only ask the assistant for free/busy time slots; event titles, attendees and locations are never shown to them.
- No human reads the calendar data other than the owner.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Earnest's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the
Google API Services User Data Policy,
including the Limited Use requirements.
Revoking access and deleting data
The owner can revoke Earnest's access at any time at
myaccount.google.com/permissions. Removing the stored credential file
from the server deletes the application's access.
